HRH The Earl of Wessex Attends Musical Concert in Windsor to Celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

His Royal Highness, The Earl of Wessex attended a special concert
in St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle on the evening of Saturday 19 March to celebrate Her
Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and to reflect on the life of The Duke of Edinburgh, jointly
hosted by The Windsor & Eton Choral Society (WECS) and The Prince Philip Trust Fund for
Windsor & Maidenhead.

The Bradenburg Sinfonia Orchestra joined the Windsor & Eton Choral Society in bringing a
programme of British music from some of the UK’s most illustrious composers in what was the
first musical concert performed for part of the programme of Platinum Jubilee celebrations
taking part in Windsor and the local area. The audience also enjoyed performances by soloists
Alice Coote, Mezzo-Soprano and Richard Bannon, Baritone.

The sold out concert began with Benjamin Britten’s stirring arrangement of The National
Anthem, followed by works by Edward Elgar, Hubert Parry and Ralph Vaughan Williams.
Almost all musical pieces and songs were chosen due to their particular royal connections,
many linked to Coronations, including Her Majesty The Queen’s Coronation in 1953.

The concert was conducted by Tim Johnson, musical director of WECS and Precentor and
Director of Music at Eton College.

Chris Aitken, Chairman of WECS and Secretary for the Prince Philip Trust Fund, said: “We are
all thrilled that we have been able to come together to pay tribute and celebrate Her Majesty
The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in this way. We were also able to reflect on the life of our Founder
of The Prince Philip Trust Fund, The Duke of Edinburgh. I do hope that, through this musical
programme, that guests were able to reflect on their service and duty over seven decades to the
people of the UK and the Commonwealth and especially their support for the local community
here in Windsor.”

Other musical events to celebrate Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee are planned over the course
of the next few months including a special ‘Schools Week’ beginning from Monday 23 May and
a Jubilee Concert on Friday 3 June at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle. Tickets will be
available soon and more information can be found here.
